The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunningly beautiful and seductive in its red fruit, mint and tobacco. This is a surprisingly accessible vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it looks like an excellent choice for readers who want to explore the wines of this iconic producer – as long as it doesn’t close down in bottle. Togni’s 2009 is notable for its exceptional elegance, finesse and pedigree. There is plenty of Spring Mountain structure, but today the 2009 is disarmingly sexy and radiant for such a young wine. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.
I tasted the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from an approximate blend of barrels. The 2010 is a breathtaking, stunning wine of the very highest level. It boasts superb integration of fruit, acidity and structure. Blackberries, camphor, licorice and white flowers are some of the many nuances that flow from this dazzling Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the aromas and flavors build effortlessly to the savory, totally satisfying finish. Togni’s 2010 is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. It is a monumental, epic wine in the making. In 2010 the harvest took place between October 12-15. Because of the cold growing season, the crop was thinned significantly in order to allow for the fruit to ripen. Yields were down approximately 50%. What a great way to start this tasting! Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.
