Garnet red colour with orange reflections. Ample and complex bouquet with notes recalling truffle and liquorice. In the mouth it feels dry, full and velvety, unfolding a great personality.
Wine Advocate 91 points - Giacosa’s 2003 Barolo Falletto is made in an especially weighty, super-ripe style. It offers notable length but shows the adverse effects of the heat, especially on the finish. The Falletto has shut down considerably since bottling, making it hard to evaluate today. It was much more open when I tasted it last year. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. (Oct 2007)
Wine Spectator 90 points - Shows dried cherry and plum character, with just a hint of rose petal. Full-bodied, with very silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Still tight, yet balanced. Needs time to open. Best after 2011. 1,200 cases made. –JS (Oct 15 2007)
Especially impressive for firm but elegant tannins. This Barolo is rich in raspberry, leather and anise aromas. Very refined and balanced with abundant flavors of chocolate and tobacco. Big! Recommended with beef dishes (especially those with a Barolo based sauce) some game and smoked cheeses.
|The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. But it also includes, naturally enough, the choice not to bottle those mediocre vintages deemed unworthy of vinification.
Bruno’s art encompasses passion and clear judgement but, above all, the utmost respect for his product, its admirers and for the beautiful countryside where he and his family were born and raised.
The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within our cellars in Neive.
Some of our wine is produced with grapes grown by those farmers who have always worked our winery and whose prestigious vineyards truly deserve the ‘Bruno Giacosa’ label.
