This wine has a distinct ruby red color with notes of garnet around the edge. The nose is of ripe black fruits and is quite layered and complex. On the palate, the wine is intense with a smoky character and a long warm finish.
Wine Advocate 87 points - Soft and shapely, the 2011 Salice Salentino Riserva would make a perfect pairing to oven-roasted pasta with grated cheese and meat ragu. This is a homely, simple wine with bright fruit nuances that are plump, immediate and clean. Subtle background tones of red earth, licorice and leather give the wine a sense of roundness and softness that is very characteristic of the warm vintage. This Riserva celebrates the 50th birthday of this wine. (Apr 2015)
