Vinous 91 points - (15% alcohol; 70% malbec, 13% cabernet sauvignon, 9% syrah, 5% merlot and 3% petit verdot): Bright medium ruby. Porty aromas of black cherry, blackberry, fig and black walnut. Concentrated and surprisingly sweet, with a plush, open-knit texture to its creamy-rich dark fruit and nutty oak flavors. Has just enough acidity to maintain its shape and balance. This very full wine finishes with serious tannins that reach the cheeks. But the 2011 Coleccion Mendoza has more of a tightly coiled spring.
Wine Spectator 91 points - Features expressive notes of dried meat to the well-defined flavors of blackberry, black pudding and plum tart. Lavishly spiced, presenting a rich finish of chocolate, mocha and cream. Drink now through 2018.—K.M (Jul 2 2014)
Wine Advocate 93 points - The 2009 Grand Vin is a barrel selection of the best of the varietals. It raises the level of quality with its already complex perfume, plush personality, and great depth of flavor. Give it 2-3 years and drink it from 2013 to 2023.
